The Return of Wine Evenings at The Tackroom

Wine tasting evenings have become a firm favourite here at The Tackroom, since we started them back in March. we’ve travelled far and wide sampling outstanding wines and putting our local twist on worldwide cuisines.

After taking a short break to research and sample, we have found our next perfect destination.

We will be kickstarting our wine evenings again on 5th September, this time featuring wines from the beautiful Vineyard of ‘LA TUNELLA’.

Hailing from the region in the extreme north-east of Italy, in the centre of a triangle formed by Venice, to the west, Austria to the north and Slovenia to the east, lays claim to solid oenological traditions and to 15,400 hectares of vineyards, of which 60% produce white grapes and the remaining 40% red grapes.


Friuli Venezia Giulia is divided into eight wine-growing areas with D.O.C. denominations: Collio, Grave, Isonzo, Carso, Aquileia, Latisana, Annia and Colli Orientali del Friuli. The latter denomination is known throughout the world as an area dedicated to the production of white wines of great excellence and elegance.

During the Sixties, in the heart of ‘Colli Orientali del Friuli’, a tenant farmer called Min Zorzettig produced wine for his family. Before long, Min had purchased some small plots of land and started making wines on a larger scale with his sons Francesco, Giuseppe and Livio. In 1986, Livio and his wife Gabriella established their own winemaking business at Ipplis, with 23 hectares of hillside vineyards.

Then in 1993, Massimo Zorzettig hired the talented oenologist Luigino Zamparo to help carve out a real personality for a full range of wines. They renamed the winery ‘La Tunella’ after the hillside hamlet where the vines are grown. The specific rare mix of marl and sandstone on this hillside is known as ‘Ponca’ and it is said to be the key to the quality, flavour and fragrance of the ‘La Tunella’ range.

The evening will be hosted by Gil’ad Riggans of Corney & Barrow, and its definitely not one to be missed!

Last week saw the return of our Wine Tasting Evenings here at The Tackroom in partnership with Private Cellars and presented by Nicola Arcedeckne-Butler, Master of Wine.


The evening saw our guests sample wines from arguably the most sort after region in the world, paired alongside a French inspired menu carefully curated by our Head Chef.

‘Beef Bourguignon’, beef fillet, roasted shallots, Potato terrine, Bone marrow filled with slow braised short rib, capers, watercress.

The main course of the evening was carefully paired with two red wines from the Bordeaux region, each one cultivated on opposing banks of the river Garonne. the first being ‘Chateau Cap De Haut, Haut Medoc, Bordeaux 2010 from the left bank of the river, the second being Chateau Tour Baladoz, grand Cru St Emilion, Bordeaux 2008 from the right bank of the river. Allowing our guests to decide which one they feel suits them best. The battle of the banks!

The evening was without a doubt one of discussion and decadence, with fabulous storytelling from our Guest Master of Wine, alongside an impeccable selection of wines and carefully designed dishes.

Our next event will see us travel back to Italy to the region of Tuscany where we will explore the premium vineyard of ‘La Tunella’.

Italian Wine Tasting

Wine evenings here at The Tackroom have come again, and this time our guests travelled to Italy to sample some of the finest in Italian produced wines, from a delicious Soave to a rich and full bodied Brunello di Montalcino.

The evening saw our guests enjoy yet another beautifully curated menu, by taking classic Italian ingredients and recipes, and making unique dishes inspired by local produce and producers, our chef’s created a truly one of a kind experience.

New Spring/Summer Menu

Spring has sprung at The Tackroom! Our brand new Spring/Summer menu has landed and is already proving a huge success. Head chef Adam Spicer has created an exciting and diverse menu perfect for warmer days and longer evenings. Our lunch menu now features a selection of light bites including potted Shetland mussels with corriander and a delicious crab cocktail with cucumber jelly and pink grapefruit,  both are served with our freshly baked ciabatta. Our supper menu has also had a seasonal make-over. The Cromer crab with potato salad, lemon butter and bakery bread has already become a firm favourite and back by popular demand is Adam’s famous steak tartar served with a quails egg and again our wonderful freshly baked bakery bread.

Wine Evenings at The Tack Room


After the huge success of our first wine tasting evening here at The Tack Room, we have added many more dates to allow our guests to come and taste some of the wide and interesting variety our local wine merchants have to offer.

Our most recent event saw The Tack Room host a range of Spanish wines served alongside a Spanish inspired menu utilising the impressive range of  produce available to us in Suffolk and surrounding areas.

Guests had the chance to sample a selection of wines on the evening including this light and crisp number ‘Miudino Albarino’ which was paired with our selection of Spanish Tapas.

Our next evening will feature a selection of Italian wines alongside a menu starring inspired dishes with talks from our head chef himself, producers of the wine and our wine specialists, its sure to be a wonderful evening!

Lukasz shaking up a storm

Lukasz started his journey in hospitality when he was fifteen, working at busy catering events in his native Poland. Later on, he moved to Barcelona where he started learning the ropes in the local cocktail scene, working in numerous bars in the Gothic Quarter. After four years of managing popular beach bars, he decided to move over to East London where he began running a pop-up cocktail bar and restaurant in Clapton and got involved into various spirit related projects including the co-creation of Signature Brew’s seasonal ale, Candela Gold.


After 3 years of living in a hustle and bustle of the city he decided to move out to a beautiful Suffolk countryside and now he is working as a Bar Manager at our newly opened restaurant!

On his recently launched cocktail menu you will find locally sourced and produced spirits (eg. , home-made cordials, fresh fruit and loads, LOADS of love!
The menu will change seasonally so pop in before the winter starts and try some of his creations!

The Tackroom opens for business

After a successful set of trial runs the previous week we are now open to the general public.  The Tackroom is located just off the high street at Palace House on Palace street.

We open for 8 o’clock in the mornings for great coffee and tea.  The setting at Palace House is great way to start the day, with views over either the Rothschild Yard or the majestic bronze of Frankel in the Kings Yard.


We offer some great breakfast items such as eggs Benedict or our full English breakfast  and vegetarian options.

Alternatively you can relax at our bar stocked with some fantastic local beers and ciders or a great wine list.


Whether its a light bit or a full meal the Tackroom is now one of the very best spots in Newmarket to relax and eat and drink.
